Description
Trinity Sterile’s tourniquet is one of many reliable products available in the market. Trusted by most phlebotomists, this disposable elastic band helps extract blood from a patient. It is often seen that while collecting a blood sample, the healthcare professional fails to get access to the correct vein. It may result in poking the skin multiple times, causing pain, redness, soreness, and discomfort. Also, using rubber bands or strips around the arm or hand can cause skin irritation, unwanted numbness, and pain. This revolutionary tourniquet is meant for the patient’s ease and comfort. It allows for adequate pressure to be applied to the body part so that the blood returning to the heart can be slowed down. So the blood vessel walls are obstructed for some time, and the veins thicken due to the pooling of blood, making them more visible.
Professionals can use this product during routine blood checkups. You have to tie it around the arm or leg, and it will create pressure on the skin and veins, making them visible and more prominent.
Usage: Please tie the tourniquet 7.5 to 10 cm above the site of the puncture. This product is designed for ease, and so you do not have to apply too much pressure. The tourniquet is made with supple, power-free material. This ensures that the band does not slip off the body part. It provides you with ideal stretch and fit. To tie the band, wrap the strap around the body part with the ends crossing each other. Create a secure loop with one of the ends and pull the open end upwards to loosen it after the process is complete. Always use this product under medical supervision. It can be used by an individual or as a safety kit.
Precautions: Please make sure that the tourniquet is not left on the patient for a long time. It should not be kept for more than a minute. Even though this process is necessary to collect blood, it does have some adverse effects. If kept on for too long, it might cause hemoconcentration. It is when increased pressure against the vessel walls causes plasma and minute molecules to permeate through the capillary walls into the tissue. Hemoconcentration is loosely translated as a condition when there is an increased number of red blood cells and a high rate of molecular weight compounds in the blood sample. Therefore, if the strip is tied for too long, tests for cholesterol, albumin, red blood cell count, and coagulation can be falsely increased.
Traditionally a tourniquet has been used as a method to stop the venom from passing through the blood vessels, preventing blood loss from deep cuts. There have been multiple incidents where this method has caused tissue damage, numbness, and nerve or muscle injury. So, use a tourniquet only as per medical guidelines.
