Description
Tivicay (Dolutegravir Sodium) 50 mg tablets are an antiretroviral medication used in combination with other antiretroviral agents to treat Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1) infection in adults and pediatric patients. Dolutegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI), works by blocking the HIV integrase enzyme, which is essential for the integration of viral DNA into the host cell’s genome.
Each tablet is film-coated, which provides ease of administration and protection of the active ingredients. Tivicay is generally prescribed as part of a combination therapy regimen for HIV-1, alongside other antiretroviral agents, to maximize its effectiveness. It is taken orally once daily, with or without food.
Common side effects of Tivicay include headache, fatigue, insomnia, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Serious side effects may include liver toxicity, hypersensitivity reactions, and changes in body fat distribution. Regular monitoring of liver function, viral load, and overall health is recommended during treatment.
