The ETHILON™ Nylon Suture, Black Monofilament, Size 5-0, 18", Double-Arm Spatula Needle (RD-1) is a sterile, nonabsorbable surgical suture constructed from long-chain aliphatic polymers, specifically nylon. Its monofilament composition ensures minimal tissue drag and easy passage through delicate tissues, contributing to reduced trauma during surgical interventions.

This suture is dyed black to enhance visibility during placement, which is particularly advantageous in precision-based surgical procedures. It elicits a minimal acute inflammatory response and is gradually encapsulated by fibrous connective tissue. Although not absorbed by the body, ETHILON™ sutures degrade slowly over a period of one to two years, providing extended tensile strength retention suitable for prolonged wound support.

The RD-1 needle is a fine spatula-type design with a flat profile ideal for ophthalmic and microsurgical applications. The needle’s geometry allows it to pass cleanly through thin, delicate tissues like conjunctiva or corneal tissue, minimizing the risk of tearing or distortion during passage.
