Description

Sertraline 50 mg is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) primarily used for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). It functions by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, contributing to mood stabilization and symptom relief in anxiety and depressive conditions.

This medication should be administered orally, once daily, preferably at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels. The dosage may be adjusted based on clinical response and tolerability. Regular monitoring for changes in mood, behavior, and the emergence of suicidal ideation, especially during the initial treatment phase or dosage adjustments, is essential.

Sertraline is contraindicated in individuals receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), pimozide, or other serotonergic drugs due to the heightened risk of serotonin syndrome. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to sertraline or any of its components should not use this medication.
