Description
Miostat 0.01% (carbachol intraocular solution, USP) is a sterile, balanced salt solution formulated for intraocular injection. It contains carbachol, a potent cholinergic (parasympathomimetic) agent that induces miosis by stimulating the iris sphincter and ciliary muscle. This effect leads to the constriction of the pupil and a subsequent reduction in intraocular pressure.
Carbachol exerts its pharmacological action by directly activating muscarinic receptors in the eye, promoting acetylcholine-like effects. The induced contraction of the ciliary muscle enhances aqueous humor outflow, contributing to intraocular pressure control. Due to its potent activity, Miostat is used in small, controlled doses to achieve the desired therapeutic effect.
Miostat 0.01% is supplied in a 2.0 mL glass vial with a 1.5 mL fill volume. The vial is sealed with a grey butyl stopper and an aluminum seal to maintain sterility. Each box contains 12 vials, ensuring availability for multiple surgical applications. The packaging is designed to support sterile handling in an operating room environment.
