Lidocaine Hydrochloride injection is a non-pyrogenic, sterile solution of lidocaine hydrochloride in water for injection intended for parenteral administration. The injection is supplied in a multiple-dose vial of 20 ml where each ml contains 10 mg of lidocaine HCl. The solution contains 0.1% methylparaben as a preservative. It is a local anesthetic falling in amide type. The injection is used for infiltration and nerve block. It is indicated for the production of regional or local anesthesia by infiltration techniques such as intravenous regional anesthesia and percutaneous injection.
Lidocaine HCl works by stabilizing the neuronal membrane by inhibiting ionic fluxes. The ionic flux is required for the conduction and initiation of impulses thereby producing the action of local anesthetic. Lidocaine HCl is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to local anesthetic of amide class. Syringe aspiration must be performed specifically before and during the use of indwelling catheter techniques. Store the anesthetic in a controlled room temperature.
