Exparel 1.3% 20mL is a liposome-encapsulated formulation of bupivacaine, an amide local anesthetic, designed for single-dose infiltration into the surgical site. This advanced formulation provides prolonged postsurgical analgesia by slowly releasing the active ingredient over time. Exparel’s unique liposomal delivery system helps to maintain effective analgesia at the surgical site for up to 72 hours.

The primary indication for Exparel is the management of postsurgical pain. It is typically used in procedures such as knee arthroplasties, hernia repairs, and mastectomies, where prolonged pain relief is essential.
