Description

Dextrose 50% Injection, also known as Dextrose Pfs 50%, is a hypertonic intravenous solution used primarily for the treatment of insulin-induced hypoglycemia. It is formulated to restore blood glucose levels in patients experiencing insulin shock or severe hypoglycemia. The injection provides a concentrated dose of dextrose, hydrous, to rapidly elevate glucose levels in emergency situations.

Each milliliter of the solution contains 0.5 grams of dextrose, providing 3.4 kcal per gram. This energy-dense solution is essential in managing critical conditions where glucose levels are dangerously low. It is administered intravenously, with the solution contained in a sterile, nonpyrogenic syringe designed for single-dose use.

The solution is packaged in a specially designed Ansyr® II plastic syringe, where the syringe and barrel are detached for easy administration. This type of syringe ensures precision and reduces the risk of contamination. Dextrose 50% Injection does not contain bacteriostats or antimicrobial agents, making it crucial that the solution is used once opened.
