Description
Cabenuva (Cabotegravir / Rilpivirine) 600 mg - 900 mg injection is a long-acting combination regimen used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in adults. The combination of cabotegravir, a integrase strand transfer inhibitor, and rilpivirine, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, provides a sustained method of viral suppression when administered as an intramuscular (IM) gluteal injection.
Each single-dose kit contains 3 mL of cabotegravir 600 mg and rilpivirine 900 mg, formulated for gluteal IM injection. The injection is given once a month, replacing the need for daily oral antiretroviral medication. It is a convenient treatment option for patients who prefer fewer injections and no daily oral medication.
The injection must be stored under refrigeration prior to use to maintain its stability and effectiveness. Patients are monitored for signs of injection site reactions, such as pain, redness, or swelling. Routine laboratory tests are also recommended to monitor for potential side effects such as liver toxicity or changes in lipid levels.
