Description

Tobramycin MDV 80 mg/2 mL is an injectable formulation of the aminoglycoside antibiotic. The product contains 40 mg/mL of tobramycin sulfate and is indicated for use in treating conditions such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, septicemia, and intra-abdominal infections. The antibiotic works by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis, and ultimately leading to bacterial cell death.

This medication is designed for intravenous or intramuscular administration. Due to the high potential for nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, therapeutic drug monitoring is essential to ensure safe and effective dosing. Tobramycin is primarily used in hospital settings, where it is administered by healthcare professionals based on the severity of the infection and the susceptibility of the causative microorganism.

While generally effective, tobramycin therapy should be initiated with caution in patients with pre-existing renal impairment, as this population may be at greater risk for adverse effects. The drug may also cause hearing loss in some patients, particularly with prolonged use or high dosages.
